How Can We Help?

Sub Portals

Overview

LearningCart offers sub portal sites allowing for localization, white label sites, unique branding and course offering needs. The site can inherit the product catalog from your Main Learning Site and will also allow for the site to have its own courses and certificates. The sub portal can be managed by separate admins or by admins of the Main Learning Site.

How do I set up my sub-portal?

In LearningCart, a sub-portal is managed from your main site Admin for speed and ease of use. The initial set up is handled by the LearningCart team.

Your customers access the sub-portal via a direct url that you provide. Customer accounts created on the sub-portal will include group membership for the sub-portal.

Content Pages:
Once your sub-portal has been created, you will need to add content and products to the site.
To add a content page to your sub-portal, you must first select the sub-portal using the dropdown selector at the top of the page.

Once you’ve selected the sub-portal, the remaining steps are the same as with your standard site.

Products:
To add products to your site, you must first select the sub-portal on the Add (or Edit) products page.

Reporting:
You can view information for specific sub-portals using the Group selection on reports. Just select the specific sites you want to filter the reports for.

Site Design & Configuration

Each sub portal site can have its own custom design, navigation, language, messaging, course catalog layout, completion certificates, system generated email notifications, URL and configurations allowing for a fully branded extension of their brand. If required, Sub portal sites can have unique customizations and integrations that are separate from the Main Learning Site.

Main Site Shared Catalog

Products from the Main Learning Site can be made available to all sub portal sites with administration of those Products being governed by the main site, including price and currency. These shared products will use the course content and certificate specified by the Main Learning Site.

Sub Portal Specific Catalog

Each sub portal will have the ability to add in their own course offering with unique descriptions and pricing. Courses can be grouped and categorized based on each sub portal’s needs. By creating groups, products, and prices each sub portal site will be able to allow for different prices for different types of customers.

Authentication & Instructor Permissions

Sub portal sites will utilize native LearningCart authentication. Native Authentication allows for each site to have additional custom user registration / profile fields if needed. Permissions for Admins and Instructors can be set by the sub portal Admin, or the Main Learning Site admin(s). Separately if SSO is required for a sub portal site it can be turned on and configured for an additional fee.

Localization

If you require your site to be in a different language from your primary one then a sub portal will be used. The main site template will be applied to the new subportal along with the resource file (all system labels / copy) localized into the language needed. Sub portal sites that that are only needed for localization will carry across all the same products/courses/certificates and system email notifications. LMS administrators can go in and update these items and localize them when needed. A localized sub portal can have a different design and products/courses if desired.

Environment Setup

LearningCart will provision the new sub portal site using the existing site template from the Main Learning Site. A custom URL and SSL certificate will also be installed. Once the sub portal site is available you will be given access in the administration area of your Main Learning Site. Note: Sub portals can have a completely unique design that either you or LearningCart can develop. If LearningCart created the design it is an additional fee.

Payment Gateway

LearningCart makes the below listed gateway’s available for each sub portal site, of so desired to have a different one than the Main Learning Site. The legally responsible party for the sub portal will need to have an agreement with the gateway of choice and will provide the credentials to LearningCart. The costs associated with each gateway provider are different and are based on many factors. LearningCart recommends selecting the gateway that can provide you with the lowest transaction cost, which is typically based on volume. Each sub portal’s site transactions will flow through their selected gateway into the designated bank account.

Tax

LearningCart has a native tax engine but if a site has additional requirements LearningCart recommends an integration with Avalara (AvaTax). The sub portal site owner would setup an account with Avalara and provide the credentials to LearningCart. Tax rates will be based on the customer’s location and administrators will be able to specify the desired tax code for each product entered.
