How Can We Help?

File Manager

Jump to: File Management | SCORM Files | FTP

Overview

File manager allows you to manage large files directly within your LearningCart instance. The file manager can be accessed via the Configuration tab under the ‘File Manager’ tile or as you upload and select new content items throughout the admin portal.

File Management

The Address Bar at the top of the file manager enables you to easily move through your site directories. Selecting the ‘up arrow’ will take you up one directory from the current folder.

Note: To avoid potential security issues, file access outside certain folders is prohibited. Permitted folders are /uploads, /files, and /lmscourses.

The address field will show the current folder path which is also displayed in context in the left column below. The right column will show all files and sub-folders within the current folder. If you create a new folder or upload a file, it will appear in the current folder.

To add a new folder, click the ‘add folder’ icon. You will enter the folder’s name and then click the checkmark to create the folder. You can quickly create sub-folders by adding both the folder’s name and the sub-folder’s name into the address bar then click the checkmark to confirm.

Example: If you want to create a new folder named ParentFolder with a sub-folder called ChildFolder, you can enter ParentFolder/ChildFolder to create both at one time.

To upload a new file, click the ‘upload’ button. A dialog box will appear showing your computer’s files where you can select the desired file to begin the upload. The upload progress will display at the top and an ‘x’ icon will appear for you to cancel the upload if needed.

Note: If the file manager is opened in a context specific location within the admin portal, for example when uploading a new image, you may only be allowed to view and upload image files. For more comprehensive management and control, access the file manager through the configuration tab of your admin portal.

To move a file, you must delete the file from the existing location and re-upload the file into the new folder.

To delete a file, select the red ‘x’ next to the file you wish to delete. A checkpoint box will appear confirming that you want to delete the selected file.

Note: all deletions are permanent. If the file manager is opened in a context specific location within the admin portal, for example when uploading a new image, the deleting of files/folders not relevant to the task may be disabled.

To delete a folder, you must first delete all files within the folder. Once a folder is empty, you can select the red ‘x’ to delete the folder.

SCORM Files

SCORM files are handled differently from other files. SCORM modules must be zip files and follow a prescribed format.

To upload a SCORM file, navigate to Training > Content and Settings > View Learning Content. Select the ‘Browse/Upload’ button to launch the file manager in SCORM module mode. This will give you access to the /lmscourses folder where your zipped SCORM file will be unzipped upon upload.

Note: When file manager is in SCORM module mode, modules are represented as single files even though they are folders with any number of sub-folders and files. If changes to the module need to be made, it’s done in the client’s authoring tool of choice, re-zipped and uploaded anew.

FTP

If you need to upload bulk files or need to manage files in mass, you may want to use FTP. Click here for more information on our FTP integration.
