How Can We Help?

Updating the Blog Home Page

By default, the format of the blog home page is stored in an internal value called BlogHomeFormatString. To access your internal values, go to Configuration at the top right of the Admin, then click Internal Values. Alternatively, each Blog can have it's own home format. When editing your blog, click the Advanced tab, there you will see options for Home Format String, Post Format String, and Tag Format String.

The format strings can take any HTML markup. Along with the markup, there are a list of placeholders that will be replaced with corresponding blog data:

<blogtitle> = Blog Name

Any HTML inside these two placeholders will be repeated for each blog post on the page.

<!--Blog post-->
<!--End Blog post-->

Within the blog post placeholders, there a various placeholders that will be replaced with post data. Some of these are shared with the Blog Post itself, some are exclusive to the Blog Home Page. Please see the Updating the Blog Post Format section for a list of the shared placeholders. Here is the list of exclusive Blog Home Page placeholders.

<postdesc> = Post Description
<postdate> = Post Date (As a short date string such as 03/10/2022)
<postlink> = Post Url (The url of the post. This is just the url, so you must encapsulate it in an <a> tag to make it a link, such as <a href="<postlink>">Post</a>)

Updating the Blog Post Format

Just like the Blog Home format, each blog post formatting is controlled by either the default internal value (named BlogPostFormatString), or in the Advanced tab when editing a blog.

There is only one exclusive placeholder for Blog Posts:

<postcontent> = Post Content

The rest of these placeholders can be used in both the Blog Home format, and Blog Post format:

<posttitle> = Post Title
<posttags> = Tags (Displayed using the Tag Format String)
<commentcount> = Total Comments on the Post.
<firstname> = The First Name of the admin who created the post.
<lastname>  = The Last Name of the admin who created the post.
<postmonthabb> = The Post Date month abbreviated in 3 letters, such as Apr.
<postmonthfull> = The Post Date month.
<postmonthnum> = The Post Date month's number.
<postday> = The Post Date day number, including a leading zero if applicable.
<postdayone>  = The Post Date day number, without a leading zero.
<postdayabb> = The Post Date abbreviated day of the weed, such as Mon.
<year> = The Post Date year with 2 digits.
<year4> = The Post Date year with 4 digits.

Post Featured Image format

The blog post featured image can be diplayed in either the Blog Home or a Blog Post. Within either format string, there must be these placeholders:

<!--Blog post image-->
<!--End Blog post image-->

Within these placeholders, you can place any HTML. To display the image, you must have an <img> tag within those placeholders, with <img src> in place of the src attribute of the tag. Such as:

<img src="<img src>" />

You can format that image using a style attribute or css classes to fit it appropriately to the blog home or the blog post.
