Shipping Cost Calculations

LearningCart supports calculation of shipping costs (for physical products) using either weight based UPS quotes, flat rate national and international shipping, or custom methodologies.

Let jump into how these two options work:

If your site is configured for UPS weight based calculations, when you add a product you will be prompted to enter the weight of a single quantity.  This weight is then used throughout the system to calculate the entire weight of a user’s order. When a user goes to check out, LearningCart calculates the weight of the order and then uses UPS’s web service to retrieve what the cost will be to ship between your site’s specified shipping zip code and the shipping zip code for the customer.

If your site is configured for flat rate shipping, when you add a product you will be prompted to enter the cost you want to charge per item to ship the item within the US or internationally. This price is then used throughout the system to calculate the shipping cost of a user’s order.

For organizations that need more flexibility, LearningCart allows complete customization of shipping calculations via our customization interface.  Custom rules can be defined to retrieve rate quotes from other shipping providers, to implement additional flat rate shipping rules, or to implement any other customer specific logic.
